When he was barely more than a week old, Joaquin the piglet arrived at Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary with a spinal cord injury and an uncertain prognosis. He couldn’t move his back legs and he hadn’t been able to eat. With medical care and a lot of love, Joaquin is now a happy, healthy part of the family!
But he still struggles with the debilitating effects of his injury – it can be hard for him to get around, especially in the muddy areas that the rest of his pig friends love.
We are installing a concrete pad at the front of the pasture where the animals come up to the fence. This area is muddy, and Joaquin’s legs aren’t stable enough for him to be able to get around. Concrete will allow little Joaquin to get around, so he can play, greet people, and get food.
But we need your help. Having concrete poured is expensive, and although we have raised some of the funds already, we need your help in reaching our funding goal. The price we’ve been quoted is $10,000 to $11,000, leaving us $6,000 short.
Although injured pigs are typically left for dead, we believe that every animal deserves the opportunity to live his life to its fullest. Your contribution will help give Joaquin the chance to live happily and without struggle, and show the world that an animals’ worth isn’t tied to his or her economic value.
